Educate. Empower. Make Impact
The mission is to educate the poor and disabled (deaf, physically challenged, mentally challenged and partially blind) youngsters by providing them free:
- Internet and
- Mobile repair training
We have adopted a long-term systematic approach to transform these disabled youngsters into successful citizens by offering 21st century equal opportunities. This is done through a jump start in technological field at the AT&T Technology Park & Institute, the only AT&T branded state-of-the-art education training institute in the world since 2001. It has proven that nothing is impossible when there is clarity and focused vision of a volunteer project, and the mission becomes a reality.
Why to donate?
More than 1600 students have graduated successfully for computer/web training, and about 200 students have completed mobile repair training, and joined the workforce. Prior to joining this AT&T Technology Park free educational institute, these youngsters earned about Rs.1100 per month ($20 per month). After the study, the average earning power has been about Rs.3300 per month ($60 per month). In other words, for next 40 years of their professional career, we have provided an economic contribution of $40 per month ($60-$20) for 40 years. This translates to $19,200 per youngster. For 1800 students, we have created a total economic contribution of $25 million.
On a social side, there has been significant impact to bring their talents and skills. They have become role models in the very society which neglected them. They have overcome many obstacles in achieving their goals thus inspiring us to believe that nothing is impossible. Undertakings of such programs are needed all over rural India to build a promising future for the nation. It helps to break the cycle of hopelessness for 1800 disabled young men and women, and these youngsters are living with dignity and self-esteem.
Our developmental and progress value proposition has created significant job and entrepreneur benefits to the society. In India, the disabled community, which is about 6% of 1.2 billion populations (about 70 million), is not given any special education. Their needs for meaningful employment remain unmet, in spite of the implementation of `The People with Disabilities Act’ three years ago, Of the approximately 70 million people with disabilities in India, only about 0.1 million have succeeded in getting employment in the industries till now. The IT and mobile telecom industries have played a more emphatic role because of their vast employment generating potential power, and this has helped these youngsters. We have bought over 1800 youngsters in the industry and these youngsters have helped other members of the disabled society.
